Re: discount on revenue

Was the discount a contractual factor the terms of which had been met at year end? Or completely discretionary and a decision was made after year end?

Re: Embedded derivative

I guess if that were an asset/liability there would be no end of similar 'derivatives' for various commercial clauses in revenue contracts.

Re: Above-par instruments and current/non-current distinction

It is required to, and expected to, be paid annually over 3 years. Just checking on the principle of splitting a FV asset between current and non-current, thanks!

Re: Above-par instruments and current/non-current distinction

For a loan asset held at fair value (because of mandatory, but variable, repayments in years 1,2,3) is it still appropriate to split between current and non-current? It seems an obvious question but looking for the relevant reference.

Those are approaches to valuing a company but bear in mind the goodwill may not be attributable just to the legal entity that was acquired giving rise to the goodwill.

Re: Combined financial statements - New entity added to the group

I've seen some unusual arrangements like this and just requires a potentially quite extensive explanation of what is and isnt included and on what basis. Is it audited?

Re: Above-par instruments and current/non-current distinction

Interesting points, thanks. I was just thinking about current/non-current concept, and really it is arbitrary in understanding a company, since a year as a unit of time is of varying significance, though its there for comparability. I suppose current/non-current is not strictly based on a year, eg '...

Re: Above-par instruments and current/non-current distinction

It's an interesting question, conceptually. Conceptual Framework aside, everything about the bond points to non-current for me. But then suppose there were annual repayments as in a typical loan... is the current portion just the actual cash that will be received...

Interesting that the existence of a long-life leasehold non-moveable improvement is essentially a factor in the 'broader economics' phrase. All seems to align with common sense though, happily.

So you obtained it 15 years ago, is there a fixed period that the agreement runs for, eg 5 more years? Or is it own permanently? I would guess it's for a fixed period of time?

Re: Unconsolidated subsidiaries in practice

Yes I agree that in moderate large groups there is not a process to finalise all subs first. quite the opposite - the group being the priority and the subs as a purely administrative burden to worry about later. The subs can be audited at trial balance level. Another option in practice might be to i...

I think it just sits in operating profit, the fx loss, but then creditors increases (working capital: movement in creditors) - with both sides sitting in there the movement is subsumed into cash flow from operating activities

Also it's rare to be able to 'carry forward' large amounts of holiday, and holiday years are normally calendar years, as are many reporting periods. But for people who don't fall into those categories, a shock!
