IAS38

Post by Yiota »

Hi,
The Company earned revenue during the year from advertisements on YouTube. Does the Company have to recognise the YouTube channel as an intangible Asset?

I assume you set up the channel at zero cost, so no.

If it earns revenue, they must have spent some money on content. But maybe it would make more sense to recognise each piece of content as separate intangible assets rather than the channel itself

personally, if it was content/adverts/videos it would all be P&L and advert revenue from views would be incidental, presumably the video is advertising a product etc and the ad revenue (which must be tiny?) is not the objective of the content. would be interesting to hear more info about this case....
