Accounting for Investment in subs

Post by Leo »

"Under IFRS 9.B5.7.1 the FVOCI election is made 'on an instrument-by-instrument (ie share-by-share) basis'. As I read this, you are allowed to designate only some of the shares that you buy at FVOCI and have the rest classified at FVTPL - even if they are issued by the same company. "

This is what I've found from a post sometime ago.

My questions is, can an investment in the same company be accounted at cost and at FV under IAS 27 Para 10. For example ordinary shares at FV and preference shares at cost? Or 60% at FV and the rest at cost?

Answer is no because otherwise IAS 27 wouldn't require to switch from cost to fair value if lost control or vice versa.
